TO MY STUDENTS..
When you are planning to learn to dance Argentine Tango the best advice I can give you is to enjoy all the different activities tango has to offer. From private instruction to group classes, practicas and milongas (tango dance events), workshops to special events with guest teachers from Argentina. The Tango Tour to Buenos Aires will make your Tango journey a full immersion and inspiration taking you straight into the deep end.
So, if you are passionate, dedicated and enthusiastic about Tango you are at the right place. Learn it with authenticity, creativity, expression and uniqueness, no matter your age or personality. Tango welcomes all nationalities and it was created to embrace and attract people who are looking for artistic and friendly communication throughout the dance. Tango offers a quick bridge to meet new friends, share and enjoy the time together. Let me help you to welcome you to the tango family of Southern California and the world.
"Tango is a dance with structure and an extensive movement vocabulary. Requires discipline but also has a lot of room to express yourself and create throughout the improvisation and musical interpretation".
Daniela teaches with expertise, charisma, clarity, inspiring both leaders and followers. She offers a year program for you to follow. Usually Beginners Level takes about 6 months to accomplish while Intermediate Level takes one year and Advance Level a few more years. But it all depends on your dedication, past sports and dance experience and your passion.
From the beginning of your journey I advise you to attend classes, practicas, milongas even if you don't know how to dance yet. Add the solo-practice at home between classes and listen to tango music everyday. Watching, chatting, being with other dancers, and all what the tango atmosphere can offer will make your journey smoother and faster. If you can afford to start with the TANGO KICK START GOLD PROGRAM it will immerse you in an intensive month of tango and get you ready to start enjoying the dancing and friendship of the circuit of tangueros/as of our community. Taking private lessons is highly recommended at any level, you can always share the class and cost with your partner. Private lessons give you personal attention, the opportunity to dance with the teacher which makes you improve much faster. If you cannot afford the group classes, please talk to me and I will consider sponsoring part or full of the course's tuition.
I am always happy to see my regular students and the new one's.

FAQ's FOR BEGINNERS
1- What is tango for most people?
For some, it is a dance to enjoy, have friends and express themselves. For others it turns into a way of life. All revolving around “tango”, the conversations, the friends, the trips, the free time, the search for a partner, the retirement to Buenos Aires where they can dance at any time of the day. The style of dressing, the way of walking also changes, but when you can impart your philosophy of life in your dance it means you are truly “tanguero”... “hecho y derecho”.
2- Can I start at any time?
Yes, drop in classes are accepted but you should know that some of the concepts may have already been taught but are refreshed and reviewed constantly. It is always more convenient to start at the beginning of the month or course.
3- Do I need a partner?
No, trying the steps and fundamentals with different partners helps the process of learning and makes better dancers. It is true that having a partner to learn and practice with, someone you feel very comfortable with makes your time more enjoyable while sharing goals for the future. I always advise at least 20/30 percent of your time you dance with everyone in class. It is also a good way of helping others and making friends.
4- How many tangos are there?
There are many different styles and ways of dancing the tango. But lately with globalization we have arrived at a moment where the tango you learn today you can use to dance everywhere in the world. Styles and types have to do with the type of music played, your individual preference (your spirit, body, experience), with whom you dance, where you dance and how many people are around you.
When you start you need to acquire the fundamentals, all basic steps with their own technique, musicality and leading/following. Even if you want to perform or do choreography, you need to start from the basics because if not you will look too mechanical without fluidity and harmony.
Basically there's two styles of tango: Stage & Social. The first is to perform, to show others and the second to enjoy social dancing at the tango events, called “milongas”.
5- When can I start going tango dancing?
In reality it is very important to go from the beginning. Even if you don’t know how to dance yet, it is beneficial to watch, get familiar with the music and with the tango codes. Once you can move around the dance floor without altering the flow of the circle you are ready!
If you are a follower you might start earlier. It takes longer for the leaders to learn not only the steps but the navigation. There are practicas in town that are the best point to start for tango dancing.
6- What type of clothes and shoes should I wear?
Comfortable, not tight and not too heavy since you will be moving and you want to still feel fresh. No need to be formal for class but on weekends at the tango events dancers tend to dress-up nicely. Leather sole shoes are recommended. No extra borders, or platforms, or thick soles. Dance sneakers or similar, ballroom or salsa shoes are good. Open or close toes for females (to start is better close toe shoes). Straps for the shoes to be tied are recommended. Low, middle high heels to start and once you know more you can wear higher heels and thinner. A thicker heel gives your body more stability.
7- What type of music should I listen to ?
To start with the Orchestra of Carlos Di Sarli, without vocals is easier. Following with the orchestras of Julio de Caro, Francisco Canaro, Osvaldo Fresedo and Miguel Calo. Osvaldo Pugliese, Anibal Troilo, Tanturi-Campos, Juan D’Arienzo have a faster and sharper beat. All these orchestras are from the golden era, the 40’s. Adding the new generations will improve your ear to tango music and dancing as well. And these orchestras are: Romantica Milonguera, Forever Tango, Tango Project, Sexteto Mayor, Julian Plaza among others.
8- Is it important my age or passing dance experience?
No, tango is for everyone. This dance has a lot of room to display your personality with expression and uniqueness. There is tango for all the ages, the movements can be adjusted and performed in a comfortable way for your body type or experience. Tango is danced for people of older age with no problem. It can be a calm dance with a deep connection with your partner. You can dance on all the beats or on any other beat and add pauses to breathe and reconnect with your partner and yourself.
9- How important is it to have a partner and practice between classes?
Very important. Dance itself, like playing an instrument, needs practice. Practicing in a private setting where you can digest, incorporate, feel, share with your partner at your own pace is very important. Is so important as well to spend time on solo practice so you can incorporate the movements by yourself before trying the combinations with the lead or the following or even with the music.
10- How long will it take me to be a decent dancer and be able to enjoy the dance floor?
It depends on your past dance or sports experience, and the amount of time you dedicate per week. But generally one year to start feeling comfortable.
11- What are the benefits of dancing tango?
Tango makes people feel more relaxed, sexier, and less depressed while increasing testosterone levels. Improves the quality of life and successful aging with physical exercise, social satisfaction, spiritual and mindfulness, cognition, meaningfulness and emotional health.
12- Why is tango so popular?
At its origin Tango filled a feeling of loneliness and nowadays it still brings people together. The closeness of the embrace gives the opportunity to meet someone in a faster and deeper way. Even if the embrace is romantic, passionate or simply as friends it provides a feeling of eternity, comfort that can last for a long time. That's why couples dance “tandas”, a group of tangos from the same orchestra, without interruptions just to tone up with each other to give their best on the dance floor. When the “tanda” finishes it is more likely that everyone laughs, kisses and hugs showing appreciation.
